How to Use A Sizing Guide When Buying Clothes Online
One of the most frustrating parts about buying new clothes is finding the right size and fit for each individual piece. This is especially true if you’ve gone through a recent fluctuation in sizes due to weight gain or weight loss. But, it doesn’t have to be a terrifying or frustrating experience, especially if you get to know your sizing charts and guides well.
How to Use A Sizing Guide When Buying Clothes Online
While it is usually best to try clothing on in-store, you aren’t always going to be able to find exactly what you want at a local fashion boutique or store. This is especially true for anyone whose tastes run along the alternative lines rather than your conventional on-trend fashion senses. Luckily, there is very little to fear once you learn how to use a sizing guide.

How to check your sizing for Women and Girls:

These numbers are going to be listed in the buying guide for most items, allowing you to select the appropriate size for the item you’re considering buying. Pay attention to any listings that may have a slight difference in size, or that advises that the garment runs small, large, or true to size.

1. Bust:

Rest your arms at your side and place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, beneath your arms. Make sure to keep the tape parallel to the floor in a horizontal fashion. If you need some help, grab a friend or a loved one.

2. Hips:

While you’re standing with your feet together, wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your body between waist and knees. It’s going to be about 8” below your waist. Remember to keep the measuring tape parallel in a horizontal fashion, to the floor.

3. Waist:

Just like the other two, make this measurement while you’re standing. Wrap the measuring tape around your natural waistline. Don’t go up too far or too low to get an accurate measurement. Don’t hold the tape too tight or your clothing will be hard to move in.

How to check your sizing for Men and Boys:

Oddly enough, men’s sizing guides can be a bit trickier than women’s.

How to check your sizing for Men and Boys:

1. Arm and sleeve measurements:

Bend your arm slightly with your hand on your hip, start the measuring tape at the center of the back of your neck and run the tape across the top of your shoulder and down the elbow, then to your waist.

2. Neck:

To get the neck measurement, measure around your neck with the measuring tape just above the base around your Adam’s apple.

3. Chest:

Rest your arms at your side and place the measuring tape around the fullest part of your chest, beneath your arms. Make sure to keep the tape parallel to the floor in a horizontal fashion. Place two fingers under the tape measure against your body for a better fit.

4. Waist:

Make this measurement while you’re standing. Wrap the measuring tape around your natural waistline. Don’t go up too far or too low to get an accurate measurement. Don’t hold the tape too tight or your clothing will be hard to move in.

5. Insteam:

To measure the inseam, lay a pair of pants that fit you well flat on a table. Measure from the crotch to the bottom of the pant along the seam.

For everyone:

Once you have all of your measurements, you will be able to find the corresponding sizes on any sizing chart available to you.

Hats:

Measure the part of your head where your hat would naturally rest. This is typically found about 1” above the top of your ear.

Gloves:

Lay your hand out flat then measure around the knuckles of your dominant hand, excluding your thumb from the measurement.

Shoes:

While wearing socks place a piece of blank paper on the floor. Using a pencil, mark the end of your heel and the tip of your longest toe. Now, measure the length between the two marks.
